Radiohead made waves in the Fall when it offered its new album, In Rainbows, as a name-your-own-price online download, exclusively at Radiohead.com. No sales figures yet on that venture, but the popular band has been selling actual CDs this past week, enough in fact, to put them at the top of this week's Billboard 200 Album Chart.
In Rainbows sold 122,000 units for a number 1 ranking, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures released Wednesday. Last week's top album, Mary J. Blige's Growing Pains, slipped to number 3 with 89,000. Alicia Keys As I Am remains in the second slot with 112,000. The Now 26 collection stays at number 4 with 54,000, and Taylor Swift's jumps to the 5 spot with 47,000 units sold.
Total sales this week are down 37.5% from last week to 9.06 million units, but are off just 3.7% from the same week in 2007 (9.41 million).
