Miley Cyrus, aka Hannah Montanna, the presiding pop princess whose albums are flying off retail shelves (number five on this week's Billboard chart) and whose concert announcements spur a rabid rush for tickets, by frantic parents of tweens, and by automated ticket scalping software, will take the helm at Sirius Hits Channel 1 at Noon ET today.
Miley Radio!, which runs through January 1st, will feature the 15 year old counting down the 45 biggest pop songs in North America in a year-end edition of SIRIUS Hits 1 Weekend Countdown. She'll also host special editions of Hit-Bound, the channel's show that spotlights artists and songs it sees as the next big thing; and Best of Live Earth Countdown, a recount of the memorable moments from Live Earth. Cyrus will also share personal stories and favorite songs throughout the five day DJ stint.
Cyrus, for anyone living in a cave the past year, or blissfully unaware of the absolute control this TV and Music star holds over the tween set, is the daughter of country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus (remember Achey Breaky Heart?). She became an overnight sensation as the breakout and wholesome star of Disney Channel's hit series Hannah Montana. She's sold a bazillion records, and this year embarked on the "Best of Both Worlds" tour performing as both herself and Hannah Montana (just add blond wig for transformation). Her tour has been all over the news lately, as word came out that parents were having a devil of a time getting tickets, due to a new (illegal?) software system used by ticket 'resellers' (scalpers) that sucks up all the tickets in about three minutes. That $65 reasonably priced Montanna seat suddently will set you back four times that much, and many are willing to pay. She's the hottest ticket this year.
So if you're a Sirius subscriber, and have a tween or younger in the house (tweens are 10-14), tell them Hannah Montanna is taking over a Sirius channel at noon today. Then let them have the radio for the next five days. It's the right thing to do.
